Humboldt, Watrous Crowned Provincial Football Champions

It was a golden weekend for two HCAA football teams on Provincial Championship Saturday 2010.  Humboldt and Watrous captured the title of Provincial Champion in the 9-man and 2A 6-man categories respectively with convincing victories in their Provincial Finals.

In the 9-man final, Humboldt took on the host Delisle team.  The first half was fairly even but a goal line stand by the Humboldt defense followed by a key touchdown in the dying seconds of the half created an 8 point lead and swung momentum their way.  Two key strips in the second half contributed to a 37-7 final score.

This was Humboldt's second Provincial Championship in three years.

In Watrous, the host Wildcats returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown against Hudson Bay and never relinquished the lead.  It was a high scoring affair, but very close at the half, with Watrous holding on to a 36-27 lead.  The third quarter sealed the victory for Watrous as they scored four majors to take command.  The final score was 80-35.

Watrous last won the Provincial Championship in 2006 (and finished 2nd in 2007).
